I believe everyone should feel valued and that there awaits hidden beauty to be discovered in each one of us. Over the years I have gained a lot of life and work experience from many different fields which stands me in good stead in the counselling room.

Fostering gave me experience first-hand with children and teenagers with emotional/mental challenges and attachment difficulties. My journey with the fostering process enabled me to attend a lot of extra training courses such as the Foundation Course “PACE Training DDP (Playfulness, Acceptance, Curiosity and Empathy) (Dyadic Developmental Psychotherapy) (Dr Vicky Sutton).

Clinical Background

I also worked on the Turnaround Project with Relate to support women and children in/or affected by domestic violence and did work in both primary and secondary schools, supporting these young people, as well as seeing young people referred from CAHMS. I have some experience working around addictions and was counselling in a drug and alcohol dry house.

My passion is enabling others to discover their abilities, strengths and resources, empowering them to live the life they truly want and become the best version of themselves. I enjoy working with anyone of any age but have a particular heart for teenagers and helping them navigate such a difficult time in their lives. There was no better training ground than watching my own 4 children rollercoaster through their teen years.

I’m proud to say I’m now a Nana to 3 young Grandchildren and in my spare time I’m very interested in health and wellness. If I’m not in the kitchen trying a new plant-based recipe or juice, I’ll be researching the latest findings on healing the body naturally.

I have a natural affinity with young people and really enjoy working with them and using creative forms to enable them to connect to their own emotional world, build resilience, and develop coping strategies. I am passionate about the capacity we all have for change. I am deeply influenced by Carl Rogers who formulated the “Person Centred” approach to counselling because it focuses on providing an environment of genuineness, empathy and unconditional positive regard for each client.

Clinical Background

I also have past experience working with Relate on The Turnaround Project which involved working with children and women affected by domestic violence. This included going into middle/secondary schools for one-to-one work with the child and supporting workshops for mums and children. I had further opportunities whilst at Relate, with CAMHS young people referrals. I was involved with Leonardo Trust Counselling Adult and Young Carers.

My Early Years Pre School Practice Level 3 gave me an excellent foundation in play and development of the younger child’s milestones, attachment, and learning stages, and having home-educated my own 5 children through various stages of the process. I am now enjoying being a Grandparent.

I like to draw, play the guitar, or explore creative writing in my spare time. Having recovered from a long-term chronic illness I have a passion for health and well-being, linking nutrition with the mind-body connection. I also love nature and walking my dogs along the beach.

Sheila

FAMILY, PARENT & ADULT COUNSELLOR

ONLINE

Hi, My name is Sheila Maycock, I’m a family therapist, my special areas of interest include family conflict, separated and blended families, childhood trauma, carers and domestic abuse (including direct work with perpetrators).

Family therapy helps families to express and explore difficult thoughts and emotions safely, understand each other’s views, appreciate each other’s needs, build on strengths, emerge from trauma and make useful changes.

The problem is the problem – not the person. In family therapy, we don’t lay the blame on anyone. My role is to be curious, ask questions to help you as a family, appreciate what goes well and work out how things could happen differently when problems hit.

Clinical Background
My clinical experience and expertise has focused on working with Families, Young People and Children.

I have recent experience working for Relate and in a school setting with families. Rosemarie

FAMILY & RELATIONSHIP, CHILDREN, YOUNG PEOPLE & ADULT COUNSELLOR

bOURNEMOUTH

Hi I’m Rosemarie, offer an integrative therapeutic intervention that would be suited to your child’s needs as each child is different and their style of communicating is individual. Their therapeutic support should be as individual as they are, whether it’s through games, creativity or listening.

I want to make a real difference to children and young people’s lives and would want to give them a positive experience of therapeutic intervention, where they would feel comfortable and confident enough to open up and talk about whatever their problems might be.

Clinical Background

I have worked for Relate for 12 years, working with children, teenagers and young people at CAMHS (Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services) as well as working with children at local schools with various issues.

I also work with children who have experienced abuse and domestic violence and supporting parents with children with difficult needs.

I have worked with children and young people over a long period of time and am qualified to work with them and their families, as well as working with children’s violence to parents and being a certified child sexual exploitation awareness trainer.

Along with the above I have experience helping children with anger management issues and Asperger’s, being bullied, anxiety, social anxiety, self-harm, stress, and depression.

Merete

CHILDREN & YOUNG PEOPLE COUNSELLOR

WAREHAM

My name is Merete Davis. I am a Therapeutic Counsellor.  I enjoy working with any age but especially children and young people. My specialist areas of interest include working with bereavement, anger, self-esteem, suicidal thoughts, self-harm, domestic abuse, and children and young people who have a family member in prison.

I am committed to providing a supportive and safe environment to help individuals explore any challenges they may be facing and improve their emotional health and well-being. My main priority is to build a relationship with the person, and I am always led by how they want to use the time and work at their pace so that they do not feel pressured in any way.

I work creatively offering various resources such as art, modelling dough, puppets and sand play with miniature figures. It can often be difficult for young people to verbalise their thoughts and feelings, especially around painful and complex experiences. This can help communicate feelings in a safe way if they choose not to talk directly about their issues.

Clinical Background

I have worked extensively in Primary and Secondary schools for over 15 years. I worked for SAFE SPACE Counselling in Schools service for Hertfordshire County Council as a Senior Counsellor. This included working with young people referred by CAMHS and Crisis work if there was a sudden death in a school. I also worked for HOPE In TOTTENHAM Counselling in schools service from 2003-2019.

I have prior experience working in 3 Young People’s Information Centres, as a counsellor and an information worker, in private practice and for GP Surgeries with children and young people.

I presently work as a counsellor for MOSAIC which supports bereaved children and young people.

Jane

CHILDREN, YOUNG PEOPLE & ADULT COUNSELLOR

POOLE

Hi, my name is Jane Cassidy. I am a therapeutic counsellor working with children, young people and adults. Whether you need to untangle problems or work through worries, we can work as a team to help you build confidence to overcome difficulties. These may stem from a range of issues, including anxiety, bereavement, stress, anger, depression, abuse, trauma, family/relationship problems or low self-worth. I believe that together we can learn to understand our problems and develop tools to tackle them.

Clinical Background
My clinical area of experience and expertise are working with Adults, Young People and Children.

Having built experience as a counsellor working in primary and secondary schools, as well as a bereavement charity, I have developed an awareness of the problems children and young people can face. Working with university students online and with sixth form college students face to face during the Covid pandemic, helped deepen this understanding. In addition, I have worked with neurodiverse adults, children and young people, as well as those who are carers.

Getting to know you as a person will help us to work effectively, using techniques best suited to you to access and make sense of thoughts, feelings and actions.

Debbie

CHILDREN, YOUNG PEOPLE, ADULT & FAMILY COUNSELLOR

DORCHESTER

Hi. My name is Debbie Skilling, I have a wealth of experience supporting families, adults, children and young people. I don’t believe there is a one size fits all, everyone is an individual with their own experience of life. I aim to build a respectful and trusting relationship that enables you to identify your unique strengths and what works well in your life, that helps you gain an awareness of the hidden things going on, as well as what may be hindering you and preventing you from living a happy and fulfilling life.

You might say “Why does this keep happening?” Together we can explore and find out the answer.

I am an Integrative Counsellor which means I incorporate different theoretical approaches to help us find what works best for you.

Clinical Background
My clinical areas of experience and expertise are working with Individuals, Families, Children and Young People, and Parents.

I have experience supporting a huge range of people through multiple organisations such as Relate, Action For Children, Dorset Mind and The You Trust. I have also previously worked in schools, and as a family support worker in a Children’s Centre for 10 years. Through this experience I understand the pressures of life that can affect adults and children, and their day-to-day lives from emotional wellbeing at school to parenting, and how supporting children with additional needs can impact family life for all. To top this off I have not only worked with but have lived experience of neurodiversity.

ANNA

YOUNG PEOPLE & ADULT COUNSELLOR

DORCHESTER

Hi, My name is Anna Balistrari, I am a Humanistic Integrative counsellor working with both adults and young people. Working with young people is a particular passion of mine, with every young person that I work alongside comes new learning and discovery, not only for my client but for myself. I feel privileged to be in this position and to continue learning from my clients to enhance my work. Children and young people possess extraordinary knowledge, insight, and wisdom, and we need to allow them the time, space and compassion to be heard.

Being a Humanistic Integrative Counsellor gives me the opportunity to use different counselling approaches to better understand and support my clients. I enjoy using creative tools within my work such as arts and crafts, music, sand tray work, small world figures and psycho education. These tools give a platform for my clients to express how they are feeling about past or present difficulties in a safe way. This creative work can be particularly beneficial for children and young people who find it difficult to verbalise their thoughts and feelings without the pressure of maintaining eye contact. I have experience in working with young people and adults who have learning difficulties and who are neurodivergent.

Clinical Background
My areas of experience and expertise are working with Adults and Young People.

My career started as an outdoor education instructor working alongside schools and the prince’s trust. Since then, I have worked in many different settings supporting children and young people to recognise their strengths, overcome adversity and develop an understanding of where and how they fit into the world. As well as being a qualified Counsellor I am also a qualified Youth Worker and Careers Guidance Practitioner. In my other role I work as a Family Worker for the Early Help Team, this includes working systemically as a whole family approach, ensuring that all individuals in a family unit are being supported to overcome their own difficulties to be able to positively support each other.

I work for Relate Counselling and Redlands Counselling as well as my own private practice. Early intervention and equality are a key factor to my work, ensuring that all adults and young people can access the help and support that they need when they need it. I have experience in working with young people who have experienced trauma, school-based anxiety as well as generalised anxiety and difficulties regarding exam stress, relationships, friendship difficulties and self-harm and domestic abuse. I am a trained practitioner in delivering group and individual programmes for children and young people who have experienced domestic abuse.

DRAMA THERAPIST

BOURNEMOUTH, POOLE, CHRISTCHURCH AND SURROUNDING AREAS

Hi I’m Emma Kerr, after graduating from Drama School in 2016, I participated in various interactive performances that invited the audience to reflect on their own experiences, thoughts, and feelings. The power of theatre really struck me, and so I wanted to use my theatrical skills in a way that can be supportive to people when they are at their most vulnerable.

Clinical Background

I completed my MA in Dramatherapy from Roehampton University in 2022, and since then have worked with children and young people, and young adults with learning and developmental disabilities. My practice is very client led and I will offer creative processes into the space as a containment aid. Clare

ART THERAPIST

FORDINGBRIDGE

Hi, my name is Clare. I am a child and adolescent counsellor using the arts. I take a genuine interest in young people and enjoy engaging with them in an informal approach. Sometimes, young people aren’t able to talk about how they feel. I offer an alternative means of expressing complex or painful experiences that may otherwise be difficult to convey in words alone. It’s vital to offer ways of communicating feelings other than through everyday language, for example, with paint, clay, music, drama or sand play. I will always follow the child’s lead, as my first priority is for the child/young person to feel relaxed and comfortable with me, and in the room. The space is their’s completely and it is my aim that they begin to feel free to be themselves and that they feel heard. There is a range of art materials to use but also they may just choose to talk. The sessions do not require any skills in art as the emphasis is on the process. I work with a range of issues including :

  • Anxiety
  • Identity
  • Trauma
  • Loss, bereavement and separation
  • Depression and low mood
  • Body image
  • Relationship issues or family conflict
  • Bullying
  • Confidence and self-esteem

Clinical Background

I originally trained as an Art teacher working in secondary schools. I spent 20 years working with the arts and crafts in social care with young adults before embarking on a training as a counsellor. My working week is divided between my private practice, which I run from home, and as a school counsellor.

Theoretical Orientation

I adopt an integrative approach, drawing on neuroscientific and psychotherapeutic theory including attachment theory, object relations theory, and, in particular the work of Freud, Winnicott, Bowlby, Perls and Berne. I studied at The Institute for Arts in Therapy and Education, an ‘inspirational training helping to make a real difference to the lives of troubled children and work effectively with their experiences of trauma, loss and attachment difficulties.’

Roy

CHILDREN & YOUNG PEOPLES COUNSELLOR

BOURNEMOUTH

Hello. My name is Roy Whyte, and I am a client centred integrative counsellor. Which means that I have been trained in a core model which puts you, the client, at the centre of everything I do. The integrative part means that I’ve been trained in other counselling methods of counselling which I have added to my core model of training.

Working with children and young people is a gift. To hear their stories, empathise with their struggles and help them to build their resilience and move on in their life journey is a privilege, as well as helping young people to understand that they already possess the skills needed within themselves to work through and potentially overcome their difficulties.

Clinical Background

I draw on a wide range of experiences in my counselling work; I have worked in the voluntary sector as a residential social worker; in a Social Services day centre for older people; a primary school teacher; a counsellor, supervisor, and trainer.

It was whilst I was a teacher that I realised, some children needed more emotional help than I was realistically able to give. I therefore trained as a counsellor and joined The Listening Ear Counselling Service based in Bournemouth; a charity which specialises in working with children and young people. This led to working widely with young people within the local authority and Social Services arena.

I set up a counselling service at a local junior school in Bournemouth, with younger children and I worked at a local secondary school with teenagers.

I am an accredited counsellor and registered with the BACP.  I have been a counsellor for 15 years. I have experience working with people from a wide age range, who are struggling with a broad spectrum of issues.

I particularly enjoy working with children and adolescents and have had specific training in this area.

I adapt the way I work to meet the client’s individual needs through providing a safe ‘non judgmental’, confidential environment. The first session is an assessment, and an opportunity to establish the client’s goals for therapy.

My focus is to build a strong relationship that helps to support my clients through the challenges of the counselling work they choose to undertake.

I have a passion for creative therapy and have training in this area.

Clinical Background

I started my counselling career working for Cruse Bereavement care, where I worked with children as young as 5, right through the age spectrum to an adult age 87.

4. October, 2023.
My daughter suffered darkest times in her life before seeing Donna. Being a parent, I was devastated to the core. Luckily I found ReWellness while searching for help on Google. Donna quickly gained my daughter’s trust and built up good relations with her. She helped to resume my daughter’s hope and courage to live a better life, taught her many useful skills and tools to cope with difficulties and to overcome anxieties. After a few month’s therapy, I feel I no longer need to worry much about her self-harm thoughts or behaviours. She’s generally much happier now than before. I am deeply impressed, not only by Donna’s professionalism, but also that her being genuinely passionate in offering the help to as many young people as she can. I would confidently say as soon as your children meet Donna, they are pretty much in safe hands.

My 12 years old daughter has been seeing Donna for few months now and I couldn’t be happier with the results! The issues started when she went to high school and couldn’t cope with it all. The friendships, bullying, confidence and self esteem etc. As I parent I felt helpless as I couldn’t solve it no matter how hard I’ve tried and wasn’t getting any help from anywhere else. I found Donna and from the first message I knew I made the right choice. Donna was very professional, understanding and helpful and didn’t make us wait managed to see my daughter very quickly which was important. From day one Donna managed to have a great connection with my daughter who is always looking forward to seeing her. I finally have my daughter back, happy, bubbly and confident again! I’m so thankful for all the hard work! I would definitely 100% recommend! :)

My son has been seeing Wendy for a few weeks now and it's made such a difference. He suffers with trichotillomania and she's been able to identify the root cause and figure out ways of trying to resolve it altogether. His confidence has grown and he's more able to discuss things with me now. He absolutely loves his sessions and she's also been a great help for me, allowing me to understand him better and giving me tips and techniques on being able to improve his self esteem and help him at home. I can't recommend Wendy enough, she's been an absolute godsend for us. Thank you so much Wendy!

2. May, 2023.
I have taken my daughter to Wendy as she struggled with my divorce from her dad and had problems with her anger. My daughter built up relationship with her almost imidiatelly and often asked throughout the week when she’s going to see Wendy. It was very clear to me that my daughter trusted Wendy and felt safe to share her emotions with her. My daughter didn’t tell me much about their sessions but I could notice some changes in her behaviour and within few weeks she became less aggressive towards me and seemed to come to terms with my divorce and her dad leaving family home. I was particularly impressed with sandpit work which they’ve done together. Wendy shared pictures of their therapeutic work and it gave me lots of insight into my child’s internal world, how she sees me as her parent, what does she feel. Overall after few sessions I felt like my daughter is supported by brilliant, knowledgable therapist who both of us trusted. I would highly recommend her service to any child and parent who struggle.

Absolutely amazing! Did wonders for my 13 year old suffering with anxiety and depression. Donna is a really lovely lady, both myself and my daughter cannot thank her enough! Tried other counselling previously but did not help. So glad we found them.
