About
Hello, my name is Adam Costello, and I am a trainee counsellor currently completing my Advanced Diploma in Integrative Counselling at Iron Mill College.
My approach to Counselling is primarily person-centred, which means I place great importance on creating a safe, supportive and non-judgemental environment where you can feel heard, understood and accepted. I believe that when people are given the space to explore their thoughts and feelings openly, they are often able to develop a deeper understanding of themselves and their experiences.
While my work is grounded in the person-centred approach, my training is integrative. This means I am open to drawing on ideas and techniques from other therapeutic approaches where appropriate, always with the aim of supporting you in a way that feels most helpful and meaningful for you as an individual.
I see Counselling as a collaborative process. My role is not to tell you what to do or try to “fix” things, but to work alongside you as you explore what may be troubling you. Together we can begin to make sense of your experiences, identify patterns, and support you in finding your own way forward.
I aim to offer a warm, welcoming and respectful space where you can talk freely about whatever may be on your mind, at a pace that feels comfortable for you.

Clinical Background
I completed my Certificate in Counselling at Iron Mill College, which provided the foundation for my counselling training and led me to progress onto the Advanced Diploma in Integrative Counselling, which I am currently completing.
I have now completed the academic and experiential components of the diploma and am beginning my clinical placement as part of the final stage of my training, where I will be working towards completing my required client hours and final viva.
Alongside my training, I have undertaken my own personal therapy, which I believe is an important part of developing self-awareness and reflective practice as a counsellor. I will also be engaging in regular clinical supervision, which supports safe and ethical practice and provides a space to reflect on my work with clients.
My training has prepared me to work with a range of issues such as anxiety, stress, low mood, relationship difficulties and life challenges. I recognise that reaching out for support can feel like a significant step, and I aim to provide a respectful, supportive space where clients feel safe to explore their thoughts and experiences.
