About

Hi, I’m Malin Backero, a therapist dedicated to supporting children and young people aged 8–18. With a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology and over five years’ experience as a school counsellor in Sweden, I provide a safe and compassionate space where young people can explore their emotions, build resilience, and find strategies that work for them.

My approach is person-centred and behavioural, always shaped around each young person’s unique needs. I combine warmth and empathy with evidence-based methods, including Motivational Interviewing and Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT). My focus is on creating trust and safety, so young people feel understood and supported while developing practical tools for positive change.

I also believe strongly in the role of animals and nature in wellbeing. Having volunteered as a safe person for children through social services, I often combined support with time at the stables. Horses, in particular, have always been a passion of mine and continue to influence my belief that connection with nature can be deeply healing.

Clinical Background

I have spent over five years working as a school counsellor in Sweden, supporting children and young people through many different challenges. During that time, I helped them find ways to cope, build confidence, and develop a stronger sense of who they are. I also completed further training in gender equality, integration, migration, and refugee issues, which has helped me to offer support that is inclusive and sensitive to different cultural experiences. Alongside my professional work, I have volunteered as a safe person for children through social services, which strengthened my belief in the importance of providing stability, understanding, and care for young people who may feel vulnerable.

Throughout my work, I’ve supported young people experiencing anxiety, depression, and low mood, as well as those finding school life difficult, including situations like school refusal. I’ve also worked with young people exploring their identity or adjusting to new cultural experiences. No matter the situation, my priority is always to create a safe and welcoming space where each young person feels heard, understood, and supported as they discover new ways to move forward with confidence.
