About

Hello, I’m Michele MacKinnon.  I understand that everyone needs a bit of help from time to time.  People can become stuck in sadness, anger or worry and need a safe, secure place to understand why they are stuck, and to work through unhelpful thoughts and feelings.

I can help, having trained in a broad range of therapeutic approaches.  In addition, I bring life experience, curiosity and optimism to the work.  Training and experience come together in a client-centred, respectful approach, tailoring our work to your needs and aspirations.

At the core of my practice is a commitment to partnership.  I believe that working together to reflect on current circumstances, challenge habits and thoughts that drag us back, and be curious about what’s possible can bring progress towards sustainable change.  It’s not always easy, yet with the strength of this partnership behind you, you may find new perspectives, a fresh mindset and new skills.  Together, we can lean in when the work is hard, and celebrate the progress when it comes.

Outside of the consulting room, I draw inspiration from my work-in-progress family and involvement in the community where I live.  Sometimes the spirit moves me towards a bit of cold water swimming.

Clinical Background

This year, I completed the taught and experiential elements of a Post Graduate Certificate in Relational Training with a focus on communication and problem-solving skills for couples and individuals, working with issues such as conflict in relationships and constructive change and resilience through life stages.

I’ve gained experience in working with depression and anxiety through a life-long interest in and practice of Cognitive Behaviour Therapy.  I understand that our mind is not always our friend and that changing our repetitive thoughts really can shift our feelings.

I have also practiced mediation and training skills in a corporate setting.
