FAQ’s
What is trauma counselling?
Trauma counselling is a specialist form of therapy that helps people process and recover from distressing or overwhelming experiences. At ReWellness, our therapists work at your pace to help you feel safe, understood and supported while developing healthy coping strategies and moving towards healing.
What is the difference between trauma and PTSD?
Not everyone who experiences trauma develops Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD). Trauma describes the emotional impact of a distressing event, while PTSD is a recognised mental health condition that may include flashbacks, nightmares, avoidance and heightened anxiety. A therapist can help assess your experiences and recommend the most appropriate support.
What is the Rewind Technique?
The Rewind Technique is a gentle, evidence-based approach designed to reduce the emotional intensity of traumatic memories without requiring you to repeatedly talk through the traumatic event. Many people find it helpful for PTSD, phobias, distressing memories and trauma-related anxiety.
What is EFT (Emotional Freedom Techniques)?
EFT, often known as tapping, combines gentle tapping on specific acupressure points with focused therapeutic techniques. It can help reduce stress, anxiety and the emotional impact of traumatic experiences while supporting emotional regulation and resilience.
Do I have to talk about everything that happened?
No. You are always in control of your therapy sessions. Our trauma-informed therapists never expect you to share more than you feel comfortable with. Healing can begin without having to relive every detail of your experiences.
How do I know if trauma therapy is right for me?
If past experiences continue to affect your emotions, relationships, sleep, confidence or daily life, trauma therapy may be beneficial. An initial consultation allows us to understand your needs and recommend the most appropriate approach.
Can children and teenagers receive trauma therapy?
Yes. We provide trauma-informed counselling for children and teenagers using age-appropriate therapeutic approaches. Where appropriate, we also work with parents and carers to provide additional support.
